One of New Jersey’s Oldest Restaurants, Bloomfield’s Town Pub Open Since 1892

When the weather gets cold and the holidays hit, Town Pub in Bloomfield, New Jersey feels like the kind of place you want to tuck into for the night. Open since 1892 and still going strong, this neighborhood institution has that cozy, old New Jersey charm: warm lights glowing through the windows, games on the TVs, families and regulars filling the booths, and a menu full of comfort food that makes winter feel a little softer. It is one of the oldest restaurant locations in the state, but the vibe is relaxed, welcoming and very much alive.

On a recent visit, Eat Local NJ stopped in to see what Town Pub is serving for the season, and the night kicked off exactly how a pub visit should. At the table were Potato Skins and Mozzarella Sticks for appetizers, hot from the fryer, crispy on the outside and melty inside. The kind of shareable starters that land in the middle of the table while everyone settles in, shakes off the cold and laughs over the first round of drinks.

For something a little lighter but still satisfying, the Strawberry Grilled Chicken Pecan Salad and Mojito Salmon Salad with raspberry dressing brought a fresh, colorful balance to the table. Both salads feel like a nod to summer inside a winter pub: grilled chicken, toasted pecans and strawberries on one plate, and salmon with a bright raspberry dressing on the other. They work perfectly if you want greens without skipping on flavor.

The main courses are where Town Pub really leans into cozy holiday comfort. The Buffalo Chicken Melt and Vodka Chicken Sandwich are exactly what you want on a cold night, both cheesy, saucy and stacked, ideal with a side of fries while the game plays in the background. The Cajun Bow Tie Fredo brings a spicy, creamy pasta option to the mix, a bowl that feels like a blanket in food form. For a true old school pub dinner, the New York Steak with asparagus and loaded baked potato delivers that classic steakhouse-style plate in a laid back setting, perfect for a festive night out without needing to dress up too much.

Why Town Pub Works As A Cozy Holiday Spot

Town Pub feels built for the holiday season. The long bar and wood accents, the mix of couples, families and friends, the comfort food and generous portions all add up to a space where you can slow down for a bit. It is easy to imagine stopping in after shopping, meeting up before or after a holiday gathering, or making it the main event with steak, pasta and a round of shared appetizers. With its history, warmth and crowd pleasing menu, Town Pub Bloomfield NJ is the kind of place that lets you experience a piece of New Jersey tradition while enjoying a very current, very comforting meal.

Pair it with good company, a cold night outside and the glow of a century-old New Jersey pub, and you will understand why Town Pub still feels like home after all these years.
