Eat Local New Jersey recently stopped by Giovanni’s Bicycle Club in Englewood Cliffs, and this long-standing favorite truly delivered a memorable experience. A proud part of the local dining scene since 1969, Giovanni’s continues to offer warm hospitality and classic Italian dishes that feel like home.

Appetizers That Set the Tone

We started strong with two favorites: stuffed clams and fried calamari tossed with cherry peppers. The clams were packed with flavor, while the calamari was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of heat from the peppers. It was a delicious way to kick off the evening.
Next came the fresh burrata paired with prosciutto and a balsamic drizzle. The combination of creamy burrata and salty prosciutto, balanced by the sweet tang of the balsamic, was simply outstanding. We also tried their fresh-baked Margherita pizza, which was a definite hit with its light crust and vibrant flavors.

Before diving into dinner, we enjoyed the eggplant rollatini, a classic Italian starter that delivered everything you could want: rich tomato sauce, tender eggplant, and plenty of creamy cheese.
Classic Italian Dishes That Shine
For the main course, Giovanni’s stayed true to its roots. We began with the chicken scarpariello, a flavorful dish with tender chicken, peppers, and a bright, savory sauce.

The pasta dishes did not disappoint. The linguine with shrimp and broccoli was light but satisfying, while the rigatoni Bolognese brought rich, hearty flavors that quickly became a table favorite. Every bite of the Bolognese felt comforting and deeply satisfying.
We also tried the veal francese, a standout dish featuring tender veal in a buttery lemon sauce. It was cooked perfectly and rounded out the savory part of our meal with incredible flavor.
The Sweetest Ending
Of course, no Italian meal is complete without dessert. We ordered the Tartuffo Bomba, a chocolate and vanilla ice cream creation coated in a rich chocolate shell, as well as their homemade cannoli. Both desserts were fresh, perfectly sweet, and the ideal way to end a truly fantastic meal.

Giovanni’s Bicycle Club is not just a restaurant, it is a piece of New Jersey’s culinary history. Every dish we tried, from the appetizers to the desserts, reflected a commitment to quality and tradition that is hard to find. Whether you are planning a special night out or simply want to enjoy authentic Italian flavors in a welcoming setting, Giovanni’s Bicycle Club deserves a spot at the top of your list.
